Pickled Magnolia
🌱 Ingredients:
100g Magnolia petals
70ml Rice vinegar (or cider vinegar)
200ml Water
40g Sugar (up to your taste)
1/2 Tsp Salt
🌱 Instructions:
Carefully break the petals off the flower, gently clean them with cold water. It’s very important to treat the magnolia petals carefully, as the petals bruise/brown easily.
Let the petals dry. Then add petals to a sterilised air-tight glass jar.
Meanwhile prepare the pickling mixture: Heat vinegar with sugar and water until sugar has dissolved. Simmer 2 minutes. Pour hot warm brine over petals.
Allow to come to room temperature, then refrigerate.
If you cut the petals into small pieces, it can be ready to use after 6-8 hours. Otherwise uncut petals can be eaten within 24 hours.
Pickled magnolia tastes a bit similar to pickled ginger and goes very well with Asian dishes!
