Whenever I watch Ghibli films, I feel nostalgia, magic, wonder, fantasy, and that they feel like a dream.

These stories are often about the mundane lives of the characters that find themselves in the middle of these magical and unknown places.

But even these fantastic and magical characters find themselves admiring mundane and everyday things.

For example Ponyo, she gets so excited over little things such as how ham tastes like and how ramen is prepared and those little things make her so endearing.

When I see Alexia, I see something similar in her reaction.

These are the little things that of course we don’t think about twice because we’re just used to them, but in this movie it just seems like the most extraordinary thing in the world and that’s the thing about Ghibli, they make magic out of the most ordinary moments.

That’s what I want to express with my videos.

They’re just a medium to tell stories.

Stories that anyone can enjoy. To observe the way of life.

Close our eyes and feel the magic of music, sound, color, smell and quiet moments of life.

A car-free piece of land, quiet, pristine and surrounded by water: Hiddensee is a place for romantics. Many artists have also left their mark on the island.

Hiddensee lies west of Rügen, separated only by a sandbank . The small Baltic Sea island is almost 17 kilometers long and only 250 meters wide at its narrowest point. Around 1,000 residents live in the four towns of Kloster, Grieben, Vitte and Neuendorf. Nature determines people's lives and is also a magnet for thousands of tourists who visit the island every year.

Affectionately known as 'Söte Länneken' (sweet little land), this island's stunning and varied natural landscape in the Western Pomerania Lagoon Area National Park doesn't fail to impress visitors.

Here charming Baltic Sea romance, artistic flair and unspoiled nature meet and provide families, wellness and active vacationers with a natural vacation experience by the sea. From Rügen's west coast it is only a wing beat to Hiddensee: the ferry crossing takes just one hour. In terms of landscape, the picturesque vacation idyll is characterized by dunes, cliff coasts, long sandy beaches and alluvial land rich in birds.

The seahorse-shaped island is part of the Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft National Park and attracts visitors with its long, white sandy beaches. Here, swimmers can enjoy themselves in the Baltic Sea in summer. With so much island idyll, it is not surprising that many an artist has already settled on Hiddensee: Gerhart Hauptmann, Asta Nielsen, Oskar Kruse or Elisabeth Büchsel. The list of renowned artists, actors and poets who found inspiration for their works on Hiddensee is long.

Hiddensee: Places you must have visited

Vitte

As the largest town on Hiddensee with 650 inhabitants, Vitte is the main town on the island and also the seat of the island administration and school. The town offers numerous small stores, from bookstores to bakeries, as well as a ferry port and a private marina that connect it to the main island of Rügen. Vitte also has a lot to offer culturally: In addition to the marionette theater of the Seebühne Hiddensee, small and large guests can marvel at all the figures that have so far come to life on this puppet theater stage in the Homunkulus figure collection. Also worth seeing is the former summer house of silent film icon Asta Nielsen, who is honored in a separate exhibition.

Neuendorf

Neuendorf attracts hikers, culture lovers and families with its unique atmosphere: as a listed village, the old fishermen's art is still alive here. The village's only paved road leads directly to the eagerly used harbor, from where the fishermen sail out to sea. The "Groot Partie" fish trap shed tempts visitors with small culinary treats and entertaining cabaret interludes and concerts, while hikers can explore the approximately eight-kilometer circular trail past sandy beaches to the national park protection zone and back along the heath landscape to the harbor.

Kloster

Kloster is the cultural center of Hiddensee: renowned artists such as Nobel Prize winner Gerhart Hauptmann settled in the artists' colony that developed here. Those interested in culture can admire some of the works created here in the local galleries. The island church of the village was built on the foundation walls of the old monastery and is today considered one of the oldest buildings on the island.

Grieben

Grieben is the oldest village on Hiddensee. With its village ambience, those seeking relaxation will find a quiet environment here. With a view of the Dornbusch lighthouse, the little village is suitable as a starting point for extensive hiking tours along the high shore path to the lighthouse, to the beach at Enddorn or to the flat headland of Altbessin.

In terms of landscape, the 19 square kilometer small island can be divided into three sections: In the north lies the Dornbusch highland with the lighthouse of the same name and the Dornbuschkliff cliffs up to 60 meters high, in the middle the lowland with dune heath and long sandy beaches and in the south the "Gellen" - a sandy alluvial land, which is mostly a bird sanctuary and therefore not accessible.

The dune heath is one of the last large coastal dune heaths on the German Baltic coast. It covers an area of around 120 hectares between the towns of Vitte and Neuendorf. Visitors can explore this landscape on foot on numerous small sandy paths. The meter-high dunes are covered with heather, creeping willow and crowberry. The heath is particularly beautiful to look at in August and September when it is in full bloom.

Large parts of the island belong to the Vorpommern Boddenlandschaft National Park. Many bird species, some of which are endangered, find breeding and resting places here. Hiddensee is also home to wild rabbits, various bee species and many butterflies. The island also offers an ideal habitat for hundreds of flowering plants, mosses and lichens.

Since Hiddensee is relatively small, visitors can easily explore the island on foot. The distance between Neuendorf in the south and Kloster in the north is a full eight kilometers. From east to west, it is 3.7 kilometers at the widest point. If you don't like walking, you can rent a bike from one of the rental stations. A tour in a horse-drawn carriage is even more comfortable. Several transport companies offer carriage rides around the island.

In the summer months, excursions to the waters around Hiddensee leave from the small island's harbors almost every day. Bodden trips are particularly popular. Sailing trips on a Zeesen boat or a trip around the island on a cutter are also recommended. In autumn, crane trips to the resting places of these impressive birds, which are found in the Bodden landscape in their tens of thousands at this time of year, are also regularly held.
