Work From Home: Tips to Stay Productive
With the work from home trend set to continue, it’s more important than ever before to stay productive and manage our wellbeing effectively.
When we work from home, the biggest plus point is the increased flexibility and we can spend more time with our loved ones. But this luxury can often turn into a missed opportunity if not handled carefully. So today I want to share with you some of my tips to stay productive when working from home.
1. Dedicate a Space for Work
Distractions in home working flow in every way.
So it is highly essential to dedicate a workspace in our home, to keep ourselves oriented to our work.
That way, our brain will associate our bed with sleep, our couch with relaxation, and our desk with work, helping shift our energy levels accordingly.
2. Tune in to inspiration
Music is such an important part of our life and listening to music, or just ambient sound keeps me inspired.
I hear and choose great music while doing repetitive tasks like house chores, photo editing or cooking.
3. Have a systematic workflow
The goal of workflow efficiency is to complete our work in the fewest steps possible. I have to understand and track:
What tasks needed to be completed
When is the deadline for each task
How long it takes to complete each task

4. Keep Regular Work Hours
It’s tempting to give ourselves total flexibility as to when we get started, take breaks, and call it a day. Being my own boss, I still create a regular schedule for myself.
It makes me more likely to get all my work done and set boundaries between personal time and work time.
But it doesn’t mean that I work 9-5 every day. I work when I'm most productive.
5. I plan my workflow
I do the highest priority tasks first.
I plan my day around my own natural cycles — do the hardest work when I have the most energy throughout the day.
I plan rewards and breaks throughout the day.
Try the Pomodoro technique: it requires you to start working in 25 minute intervals, known as pomodoros, while focusing on only one thing. After each pomodoro, you take a 5-minute break, then repeat the process. After completing 4 pomodoros, you’re able to take longer breaks of 15 to 30 minutes.
6. Stay away from social media
For most of us, this is the most popular source of distraction. We may want to stay up-to-date about the news and what your friends are up to. Especially when a lot of my work is involved in being online.
We either have to self-control (which is easier said than done), or just leave phone somewhere and stick to your work.
7. Don't forget to exercise!
When working from home, it’s easy to get lethargic and forget to get up and get moving.
But a strong mind goes hand in hand with a strong body.
You don’t need a sophisticated gadget to exercise; just start with what you have and stay committed. Doing yoga, walking, running, cycling... Stay fit and be productive!
8. Eat & Sleep Right
When we're at work, we tend to make healthier choices. Eating in the cafeteria or bringing a lunch box makes it easier to make a conscious decision to eat better. However, at home, indulging ourselves becomes the norm.
I set daily reminder to drink lots water. I include as much fruits, veggies into my diet as possible. I go to bed a definite time and try to get as much sleep as I can.
9. Go easy on ourselves
Sometimes I get absorbed in the work in a way that I lose touch with the outside world. Balance our efficiency with self-care - if we are not mentally well, we cannot give our best.
Maybe we are no different to the trees, the ocean, the animals and all other living beings on earth. That in essence, we are an intricate part of something bigger.
